The Bangles – Touring again!

When I was a little girl, all I wanted to be was Susanna Hoffs. Now that I’m in my 30s, all I want to be is Susanna Hoffs. Hoffs and the sisters ala Peterson (Debbi and Vicki), collectively known as The Bangles have scheduled some east coast tour dates with the promise of more in the future . Hitting up both Boston, MA and Northampton, MA the band is covering all of the bases in the bay state.
The Bangles, if you recall, ceremoniously “Walked like an Egyptian” right into our hearts in the early eighties. But while the big hits STILL get stuck in one’s head (seriously, can I tell you how many times THIS year alone “Manic Monday” pops into my head on the start of any given work week?) it is for their amazing musicianship, songwriting, and beautifully blended harmonies that they will forever be remembered. Of course, a band full of hot chicks that kick ass certainly doesn’t hurt…but they’ve got the chops to back it up.
Playing 90 minute sets to an intimate yet loyal gathering, The Bangles haven’t missed a beat. The show had a little bit of everything including Vicki on lead vocals for “Single by Choice” and Debbi stepping out from behind her kit to sing lead on a few songs as well. The set was well rounded from start to finish covering all of the hits that fans wanted to hear from “In Your Room” to their cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Hazy Shade of Winter.”
After a decade long break-up the The Bangles joined forces again to release their 2003 album Doll Revolution. If you were at one of the shows and wondered where you could find the songs “Here Right Now,” “Ride the Ride,” or “Single by Choice” you should pick up this album!
Are these tour dates a sign that we may be hearing new things from The Bangles in the near future? According to the band “We’re so grateful to be a band that still enjoys playing music together, we have a great time performing, there are more songs left to be written and recorded, and we’re just putting one foot in front of the other and making choices for the next year in terms of what we can accomplish.” With a goal of “to keep going” it sounds like we may be in for some new material from The Bangles but this time it will be on their terms…and as one of the most successful all-female bands of our time, how can you argue with that?
