Rivers Cuomo of Weezer Hospitalized After Bus Accident, Tour Canceled
News is trickling in that Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo was involved in an accident early this morning on his way to Boston for their show scheduled for tomorrow night. As of right now an official tour cancellation hasn’t been issued but it is rumored to be canceled. Our thoughts go out to Weezer, Rivers, and his family. Here’s a detailed report from AP.com:
“Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo was involved in a bus accident early this morning outside Amsterdam, New York. CNN is reporting that Cuomo’s tour bus slid on ice and careened out of control before eventually crashing through a guardrail and landing in a ditch. Cuomo has been hospitalized at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, New York, complaining of rib pain, along with his assistant, Sarah Kim, who suffered minor injuries. Cuomo’s wife and daughter, as well as a fifth, unidentified passenger, escaped the crash unharmed.
Drummer Pat Wilson tweeted the following about the incident, although it is unclear if he was actually on the bus at the time of the accident: “It was perfect conditions for black ice. Got loose going towards the meridian, driver saves it but bus goes thru guardrail into 6ft ditch.”
Cuomo was traveling in a five-bus caravan with the rest of Weezer from Toronto to Boston, where the band were scheduled to perform tomorrow night. Tourmates Jack’s Mannequin have confirmed that the remainder of the trek — tomorrow night in Boston, Dec. 9 in Washington, D.C. and Dec. 10 in Philadelphia — has been canceled. There is no word on any rescheduling of dates yet.
Cuomo has yet to tweet about the accident; his last message came late last night and read, “Man, I’m feeling some serious love at these Weezer shows.” We wish him the speediest of recoveries.”
