Three Minutes With…Brent Muscat
Since this is my one year anniversary of squeezing “Three Minutes” outta several musicians, I figured I’d go back to where it all began…. to my boys, part of my extended family, the Sin City Sinners. I first brought you them as the Spotlight Band for February 2010, right before the release of their debut CD Exile on Fremont Street, then singer Todd Kerns and bassist Doc Ellis took on the Sack O’ Questions later that spring, right before Todd left on tour as Slash’s bass player. I now cornered the last remaining holdout from that original interview – guitarist Brent Muscat.
Okay Brent, your question is – what is the best and/or worst thing about playing in Vegas?
The best thing about playing in Vegas is playing in the casinos. They can actually afford to pay you, and there’s no “pay to play” like LA. In LA, you can’t make any money. If you’re a new band, you even actually have to pay to play, which really sucks! I love being here, playing in Vegas, I think it’s the best scene in the whole world.
Is there anything bad about playing in Vegas?
Bad? Hmmm…. Well, not that I can think of really. There’s bad things about Vegas, but not about playing Vegas.
Alright! Now make your plug!
Sin City Sinners! Every Friday and Saturday at Station Casinos! Fridays at Sunset Station. Saturdays at Santa Fe Station. Come out. Hang out. Have a good time. See what Las Vegas is about!
“Three Minutes With”…. Year In Review:
As an added bonus, I also caught up with some past subjects to find out what they’ve been up to lately….
Todd Kerns/Doc Ellis (June 2010) – The Sin City Sinners released their second CD in December 2010, an acoustic EP titled Broken Record. Pick it up at their live shows and their website and there’s been some autographed copies put on Ebay by their manager to benefit Cystic Fibrosis research. Keep an eye on the band’s Facebook page for those special auctions! Todd is also putting out a solo disc Go Time and the limited run is now available on his website.
Phil Varone (July 2010) – is Playgirl’s Mr. December. If you missed it on your local newsstand, he has some copies available on his website: philvarone.com
TJay (April 2010) – had has a huge year! Since we spoke to him, he’s opened for Blues Traveler again, along with Little Feat and The Neville Brothers. He also won the Relix Magazine Jam Off contest and had his song “Goldfish” featured on their compilation CD in their Jan/Feb edition – which put his tune alongside those by Gregg Allman and Keller Williams.
Jani Love – the Rock N Roll Jeweler (September 2010) – Jani is currently at work on a new line of jewelry she will release for spring. She also is hoping to add a few surprises to add to the mix with fashions and accessories that fall into more than just the jewelry category. More to be released on that in the coming months. Suzy Sins Studio is turning three this July and will be throwing a celebration showcase sometime between May and then. Jani would just like to thank all of her supporters and Jessica Messina for spotlighting her company in her column on They Will Rock You. More of her work and contact details can be found at www.suzysinssstudio.com. (business only please!) Also- become a fan on Facebook and mention this story and Jani will give you 30% off your next quote for custom jewelry!
Andrew Freeman (First One! February 28, 2010) – Andrew is now the lead singer for the reformed band Hurricane, replacing Kelly Hansen. They’re gearing up for the release of some new tunes and a tour soon, and for updates, check ’em out on Facebook.
I just wanted to thank my readers and my subjects and everyone who’s helped me out over the last year. You are all awesome! I look forward to snagging “Three Minutes With…” many more! xo
Are you or do you know a musician coming through Las Vegas that wants to give the shortest interview ever with probably the shortest interviewer ever? Forward me contact info or put them in touch with me. Do you have a query for the Sack O’ Questions? Email me at ThreeMinWith@yahoo.com. (Sorry, I can not guarantee any question to be asked to anyone specific, because it’s literally the luck of the draw, but if your question gets drawn, you’ll get props – make sure you note how you want to be thanked!)
