Owl City Debuts Video For “Deer in the Headlights”

June 30, 2011 by

Owl City, aka Adam Young, takes inspiration from Back to the Future’ in the video for his new single “Deer in the Headlights,” which is featured on his latest album All Things Bright and Beautiful.  Check it out below.

“It’s a quirky video for a cheeky song that quips, ‘Why are we in love if it’s for all the wrong reasons?'” he tells JSYK. “The song is about fending off the blinding light of superficial fluff relationships and saying, ‘Thanks, but I’d rather be alone and thus avoid a million shallow heartbreaks until I meet the girl of my dreams.'”

In the clip, we see Adam driving the iconic DeLorean and seeing everything from floating jellyfish to a Tyrannosaurus roaming the earth. He stops in a convenience store and sees a sweet baby deer in the aisle, before turning around and locking eyes with a girl at the counter.

The girl, played by singer-songwriter and former tourmate Lights, seems like a dream, and, in fact, she is. In the blink of an eye, she’s gone.

All Things Bright and Beautiful is available in stores and on iTunes now.

Staind have confirmed a September 13th release of their upcoming self-titled release. The new album marks the band’s seventh studio release.

The band debuted one of the tracks from Staind called “Eyes Wide Open” on their website today.  “Not Again,” the first official single from Staind will then impact rock radio outlets nationwide in mid-July.

Aaron Lewis on Staind:
“It’s the heaviest thing we have recorded in a long time.  It’s definitely one of the heaviest collections of songs that we have put together.”

Mike Mushok on Staind:
“It’s completely different than the last record. It’s more of a throwback to where we came from.  I definitely think it’s fresh. It’s a modern-sounding version of a heavy Staind record.  It’s pretty cool.”

In other news, Staind will perform at KROQ’s annual rock festival, Epicenter 2011, slated for September 24th at Irvine, California’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.  For up-to-the-minute details, please see

Staind Track Listing:

3. Failing
4. Wannabe
5. Throw It All Away
6. Now

Sad you missed it?  Let us take you there!

Butch Walker & The Black Widows will release their new album The Spade on August 30th.  The band recently  debuted the first single “Summer of ’89”, check it out below and let us know if you’re as excited as we are for this one!

Butch took to his Tumblr account to fill fans in:

Been awhile…

Hey people! So I am gonna make this short and sweet, but not without typos (typing on a damn iPhone is not my idea of a good time)…

Me and the Black Widows have been hard at work getting everything together for our new record to be released on Dangerbird Records and it will be coming out on August 30th!!! We are so damn proud and excited for this collection of music written by me and the band, and we can’t wait for your tiny little ears to be filled with it.

The first song you will be hearing from it is a song called “Summer of ‘89” and it is a scorcher! Hope you enjoy it as much as we have recording it, and just so ya know, the whole record is live show tested and approved. You’re gonna party. I promise. If you love Justin Bieber… Then you will hate this probably.. But hey, can’t please everybody!

Enjoy your summer and drink one back for us.

Butch & the Black Widows

p.s. Thanks to the kind folks at Tumblr for premiering the song!

Over the weekend the inagural four day Wanderlust Festival went down on Stratton Mountain in Vermont.  The festival, “an epic 4-day yoga throwdown” combined yoga and rock n’ roll with the beautiful backdrop of New England.

Michael Franti & Spearhead headlined the Globetrotter Stage on Saturday night.  Known for spreading peace and love through music and song Michael Franti & Spearhead were the perfect end to the day for festival goers.  Blending hip hop with reggae, folk and a message of hope the band performed against a sky full of stars to an enthusiastic crowd.

The Wanderlust folks called Franti’s performance “one of the mostepic Wanderlust musical performances of all time” singing high praise for the performer and his band!

Our photographer Dave Barnum was on hand to capture photos of the show, check out his galler below!  Michael Franti and Spearhead are on tour throughout the summer so to find out when they’ll be at a venue near you check out their full list of tour dates here.
