Courtney Love Kicks Off Summer Tour Dates

Few names in music can get a reaction the way Courtney Love can. Never one to keep a low profile, Love has been surprisingly quiet on the music front for the last few years but that has all changed. What started out as a short run of dates on the East Coast has grown to a cross-country trek that for now has Love as well as guitarist Micko Larkin, bassist Shawn Dailey and drummer Scott Lipps playing through-out the summer ending up in California in late August.

With a handful of dates under their belt the reaction from fans is enthusiastic to say the least. The setlist is primarily drawn from Hole’s Live Though This, Celebrity Skin and Nobody’s Daughter releases.

When it comes to Courtney is easy to be distracted with her tweets and off the cuff remarks. However, all that really matters is that when she’s on her game few performers, if any, can command the attention of everyone in a venue – be it the usher, bartender, boyfriend that got dragged to the show – the way she can. She spellbinding, unpredictable and an awesome mix of flash without the fluff. Be sure to catch her on this run of dates because you never know how long the next hiatus is gonna be and there’s nothing worse then logging on the next day and reading how great the show was…and you weren’t there

In order to avoid confusion based on information I have already written about very recently and for the sake of this review I need to make the obvious distinction that this is “Toddryche,” rock fans.  The much anticipated new album featuring vocalist Todd La Torre does in many ways give back what many older Queensryche fans have been wanting for years, a return to the core of what made this band so great to begin with: metal guitars and high harmonies.  It’s a simple formula but one that has been sorely lacking from the last few Queensryche records like American Soldier and Dedicated to Chaos.  I don’t think that original Ryche members Scott Rockenfield, Eddie Jackson and Michael Wilton along with guitarist Parker Lundgren could have picked a better frontman to take Queensryche in this direction moving forward.  Read more

A lot of music both on CD and DVD has been issued or reissued from the career of Ronnie James Dio since his untimely passing, a loss that is still being felt throughout the metal community three years later.  If you were lucky enough to witness Dio’s 1986 tour in support of their 3rd album Sacred Heart  then you were able to witness the largest stage set and most elaborate production Ronnie was ever a part of.  For those of us who didn’t, this new release from Dio Finding The Sacred Heart – Live in Philly 1986 will be the next best thing to being there. My curiosity was piqued weeks ago when this date was announced because for the most part Boston hardly ever showcases any classic hard rock acts..unless it’s a big name and it’s at TD Garden.  This was going to be a unique opportunity to be able to witness Queensryche on a small stage celebrating 25 years of the landmark Operation: Mindcrime album.  I just wondered which Queensryche lineup this was going to be?   Read more
