With only a handful of dates left on this year’s Monster Energy Outbreak Tour the bands rolled into Poughkeepsie, NY in high gear with the throttle wide open. Headliners Bullet For My Valentine delivered the kind of performance that we’ve come to expect from these Welsh Metal veterans. Opening with ‘Breaking Point’ from their latest release ‘Temper Temper’ the band hit the stage and blasted one anthem after another. Crowd favorite ‘Scream Aim Fire’ closed out the set and spawned a massive mosh circle that encompassed half of the audiences. For their encore they toasted one of the members of Throw The Fight on their Birthday before closing the night out with ‘Tears Don’t Fall’.
When Black Veil Brides came on the scene three years ago it was common for critics to recite the list of bands that BVB reminded them of. Seldom, if ever, was the band’s talent brought up. Unfazed by their detractors they have grown musically and take a backseat to noone in a live setting. They may have lost some of the warpaint along the way but the energy and attitude is still there. Frontman Andy Biersack commands the stage with a charisma that can’t be fabricated or feigned. Their impressive nine song set made a case for the old adage “leave them wanting more”. “Wretched and Divine” and “In The End”, off their latest release, sounded especially good.
Opening acts Stars in Stereo, from Los Angeles, and Throw the Fight, from Minneapolis, Minn. fit the bill perfectly. Stars in Stereo, with singer Bec Hollcraft, added a polished power-pop-metal sound and kicking things off with their high octane rock was Throw the Fight.
