Live Back To The Roots- Accepted!

When Udo Dirkschneider decided in 2016 that he wanted to perform only Accept songs in his set for an entire tour he was electing to tackle legacy.  At 65 years old he has nothing left to prove.  His resume includes 10 Accept studio albums and 15 U.D.O studio albums spanning a career going back to the late 1970’s. As to not confuse longtime U.D.O fans for this venture, he decided to just go out with this touring band as “Dirkschneider”.  Only performing songs from his Accept albums for one last time.  He claims these songs will be removed from his set forever only choosing to perform U.D.O songs in the future.  One last definitive statement celebrating his Accept years, what they mean to him with a complete concert of these tracks for the fans one last time. The tour has been a huge success all over the world and sparked a Live 2 CD package in late 2016 “Live Back To The Roots” highlighting these great shows.  Demand became great for a visual companion to this Live package so another show was recorded in Dec 2016 via the Czech Republic and now fans have a 2nd Live 2 CD set with a DVD “Live Back To The Roots-Accepted!”.

Fans are getting the full treatment of 24 Accept songs from all ten Accept studio albums that Udo appeared on including hits “Balls to the Wall”, “Metal Heart”, “London Leatherboys” and “Restless and Wild”.  In fact the majority of the set consists of songs off the albums “I’m a Rebel”, “Breaker”, “Restless and Wild”, “Balls To The Wall”, “Metal Heart” and “Russian Roulette”.  His last three Accept albums in the early to mid-1990’s are not represented here and that’s a shame.  Not sure if it’s a legal thing or he’s just not too thrilled with the material but I guess if I have one criticism of this it’s not hearing every album represented.  Hey I guess you have to draw the line in the sand somewhere.

The band is basically the same cast as the current U.D.O. lineup with Andrey Smirnov and Kasperi Heikkinen on guitar, Fitty Weinhold on bass and Sven Dirkschneider (yes it’s Udo’s son!) on drums.  This lineup has played a ton of shows together over the past few years and you can see the chemistry within on stage is working at a very high level.  There isn’t much down time or solo’s during an Udo D show.  Let’s just rock out for the next two hours and I’ll give it my all.  I think that’s what I really enjoy about this band at this point in their career and especially Udo himself.  He’s still wearing military greens, combat boots and is short, bald and heavy.  Almost as if to say hey Roger with a vocal track playing you could fill in if you needed to.  If you’re an Accept fan you will enjoy this.  If you’re an U.D.O. fan your probably an Accept fan already so you’ll buy it too!  Big thanks to AFM Records for this visual documentation.
