The Upwelling Release 9/11 inspired “Ladder 116” Video – Proceeds To Benefit NY Charities

With the 9th anniversary of the tragedy of September 11, 2001 on the horizon, The Upwelling have released their video “Ladder 116” announcing that proceeds will go to the New York Police & Fire Widow & Children’s Benefit Fund.

The song pays homage to the Queens-based Ladder 116, of which the band shared a friendship. The company was held in the Midtown tunnel the day of the tragedy, due to a security warning which inevitably saved their lives.  Two members, however, Paul Gill and Thomas Casoria, worked on rotation for their engine company, and were two of the many brave heroes who lost their lives. This song, and its corresponding music video, remembers these two and the many others who were lost, as well as the legacy of the World Trade Center.

The video for “Ladder 116” is a compilation of footage of the construction of the Twin Towers, in addition to video clips of employees of all races and creeds working in the buildings. It captures the iconic center that represented the essence of New York City to the world and that pumped life blood into various worldwide fields, from finance and insurance to commerce and public media.

On August 31st, the new album from Papa Roach “Time For Annihilation…On the Record and On The Road’ drops and the band has included a hidden track that will encourage fans to support the end of hunger and homelessness through organizations like WhyHunger (who have been fighting against hunger and poverty since 1975).  The message personally recorded by frontman Jacoby Shaddix, encourages fans to do their part to fight hunger and homelessness. On the track, Shaddix asks fans to take out their phones and text a number for WhyHunger in order to donate $5 to the organization.

The cause hits close to home for P-Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix who was homeless during his childhood. Shaddix will also be recording a PSA for WhyHunger to help raise awareness for their free National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY).  For more information on WhyHunger, please visit “It’s really important to us to continue our partnership with WhyHunger and offer support in any way we can.  It’s all about finding new ways to spread the word and raise awareness and this is the first time we’ve ever done something like this on an album.  If one person listens to it and does something to help, we’ve done our job,” says frontman Jacoby Shaddix.

The It Takes A Community Foundation was founded by Lewis and his wife Vanessa with a focus on reviving rural communities throughout the greater New England area.  The charity works with local leaders and community organizations that have firsthand knowledge of the needs of their communities.  It strives to raise funds and support these community groups who strengthen, engage and enrich the communities they are in, sustain diminishing public services and provide assistance to communities in crisis.  For more information, visit

For its initial launch, ITAC’s goal is to raise funds in support of the Community Education Center in Worthington, Massachusetts.  Funds raised will help open the school’s doors and provide a seamless transition from a district run facility to a community school.

“My family has been directly affected by school closures in our rural area due to state budget cuts,” said Lewis.  “We have seen firsthand the necessity for smaller communities to have a voice and to determine their own local needs and priorities.  Our foundation strives to do just that—to build a collective of local community members and empower them to take charge of their own community’s future.”
