Concert Review: Billy Talent at the Sinclair in Cambridge, MA

Billy Talent played the Sinclair last week, to a respectably crowded house for a Sunday night. These guys are another band that I fell into through Spotify. I’ve written about this before, but sometimes it’s just spooky how their recommender system can pick music out of the air they know I will like. (Had to give them a shout out, because this is what I do for my day job.) Read more

I knew Nightwish was a big draw, but I’d never seen a show as packed as this one. When we arrived, we were greeted with the longest waiting line I’d ever seen. It snaked around the entire block, then back into the parking lot, where it curled around itself again. I spent most of the time wondering just how in the seven hells everyone was going to fit inside the venue, let alone how long it would take to reach the door. Much to my surprise, we only waited in line for less than an hour. Kudos to the Palladium staff for getting everyone into the building quickly and safely. Read more

Michael Wilton of Queensryche

December 2, 2013 by

QR-Picture-50It’s been a year of change for Queensryche. From the exit of vocalist Geoff Tate and the addition of Todd LaTorre to their latest self-titled release reaching No. 23 on the Billboard 200, Queensryche has reinvented themselves.

We recently caught up with guitarist Michael Wilton to talk about the whirlwind of a year it has been and what the future holds for the rockers.

Interviewed by: Roger Scales

Your S/T record was released in June and the response from the fans in the US especially has been overwhelming.  You charted #23 on Billboard and most critics have been extremely favorable in reviewing the record.  I believe the public has more than accepted vocalist Todd LaTorre into the band and the crowds are feeding off this positive energy that was enveloped and surround Queensryche at this time.  Do you agree?

Yes. It’s evident with the release of our album the reviews have been totally positive.  It’s encouraging to read what the magazines and online sites are saying but what’s great is what we have heard from the fans.  That’s the ultimate approval that we look for.  We also appreciate what our peers are saying as well.  Other bands seem to have really accepted our direction with the addition of Todd as well.  Read more

Metalheads and punk rockers alike united at a bar by the train tracks for a brutal night of extreme music. Four bands and a packed house? What more could you ask for?

Starting things off were local heroes Nightbitch. While the crowd immediately rolled their eyes when the band referred to traditional metal as “tradish,” they’ve got some solid musical chops nonetheless. Nightbitch deserves a lot of respect for both using a Hammond organ in their songs as well as featuring clean singing…by a vocalist who can actually sing. There’s a reason these guys have a strong following around here, and their set was most impressive. Read more

It’s a relatively rare occurrence when folk metal bands come to New England and it’s not the dead of winter, with fans freezing their asses off. So, it was most welcome to hang around in forty-plus degree weather rather than four degrees when Finntroll dropped in with some impressive supporting acts in tow. Oh, and there were guys in chainmail, leather armor, and kilts folk dancing in the mosh pit. With that mental image, let’s get started. Read more
