So this is my baby. I admit it: I'm the boss, and I'm bossy. That does not mean that I do not love every one of these effers who helps me keep this site afloat. They rule the school. They're my posse! I cannot tell a lie, this site is pure therapy for me. Thanks to everyone who makes it happen from the teacher all the way down to your best girlfriend (oops)..I mean...from the staff to the contributers to the loyal visitors to all of the bands..you rock!!! Sure I often bitch and complain about how much time this site takes, but hey, it keeps me off of the street, and who wants to see a pasty faced white girl on the streets!!

I've been a music slut since the day I was born and I give music full credit for getting me this far in life. Not quite sure what I'd do without it and I hope I never have to find out!

I am a crazy mamasita, hailing from Southeastern MA from a musical family, there isn't a genre of music I don't enjoy. However, ROCK, is the most prevalent in my life. I think I missed my calling and should have been the front-girl for my own rock band... I have the energy and the passion. However I chose the medical field for my "real job". Friends told me I should be writing for "Teen Beat" magazine, after reading the recaps from various shows I had attended and bands I had met. I am 30 something going on 15... What can I say, I'm crazy about certain performers and like to share my excitement with others, is that so bad? My husband has proclaimed me a "groupie" however, I like to consider myself a "band-aid" along side Penny Lane, just don't sell me for $50 and a case of Heineken!

I got into music at a young age through dance. As a dancer, I figured out that music was actually art and not just fun to thrash around to at school dances. I live and work in Boston as a copywriter for a publishing house run by nuns. Yep…nuns. I have a guitar that sits in my apartment, wanting me to learn how to play it, yet its seductive ways have yet to convince me to spend money on lessons. Or build up the calluses required to love it. That said, I still enjoy music from an outsider, groupie perspective. Certain songs can change your mood in an instant—it’s like instant art therapy. And who am I to judge that, right? Well, I’m a reviewer, it’s what I do. I judge what other people create…but, hey, at least I admit to it.

When I was eleven, I sat in front of my brother's stereo with a cassette recorder, taping his Police LPs as they played. Sure, the recordings from my little music pirating operation sounded a bit scratchy, but to me, they were absolute perfection. A few years later, as a high school freshman, I told my guidance counselor that my career goal was to be a keyboardist. "You mean like a classical pianist?" she asked. "No, like a keyboardist in a band." "Oh," she said quietly, "I see." Of course, that plan didn't quite work out. I hated practicing, and the closest I ever got to songwriting was composing a brief pre-teen ode to Duran Duran's John Taylor. Thankfully, though, I never lost my love of music. And I'm fortunate enough to combine it with my other great joy, writing. I'm also happy that these days, the sound quality of my music collection is much improved. Reggatta De Blanc sounds a hell of a lot better on my iPod than it did on my old Casio recorder.

Damn I'm smooth! I'm a fun-loving, mischievous, Libertarian, tattooed, insomniac sinner from Minneapolis - and I love it. The truth is that music owns me. Something is always on, even when I sleep. I have a song in mind for every memory and almost a tattoo to match each one. Discovering and becoming obsessed with that new song or band uplifts me for days or even weeks. Music is that ex-girlfriend that broke my heart that I always keep going back to. Somewhere along the way I sold her my soul and will never get it back. My favorite musical "flings" are Frank Sinatra, Killingbird, Betty Blowtorch, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, Volbeat, Wildside, Third Eye Blind, and Toad The Wet Sprocket (to name a few), but my mood goes from rock to hip-hop to country to classical and back in an hour. I go to about 6,339 shows per year, give or take 716. I live for good times and collect good memories. I'm a Pisces and an INFP. I'm the co-founder of the social networking site Petsmopolitan. I have more tattoos than your grandmother is years old. I love bonfires. I drink too many Full Throttle Fury Energy Drinks.

And your mother would love me.

First of all I have GREAT taste. Music, movies, men...I also have a bit of an obsessive/addictive streak which makes me very dedicated and committed to what and who I believe in (and very protective). Luckily I've had enough common sense to stay away from things that might get me into trouble with a personality such as mine. I love that 'cloud 9' feeling and I can usually be found floating on it while listening to some of my favorite music and I THANK GOD for all the musicians that have kept it coming year after year despite the ups and downs and the disgusting, sickening nature of the music 'business' that has tried to keep many of the worlds BEST musicians and songwriters down. Faves: Slaughter, Firehouse, Winger, Jani Lane/Warrant, Queen, Elvis

I adore everything associated with rock and roll, and am a veritable classic rock encyclopedia. My mother loves to tell the story about how the first song I ever sang was Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. Emanating from the carseat, she could have sworn she heard a little voice singing along with the "ah ah ah." Lo and behold, she turns down the volume, and it was me. Rock music flows through my veins like blood. A few years ago, I became deeply interested in studying photography. It wasn't long until I connected the dots in my mind to realize that my ideal career was that of a rock and roll photojournalist. Residing in Pittsburgh, voted one of the top cities for up-and-coming bands, I began doing work in the local music scene. Rolling Stone won't know what hit them in a few years.

In a nut shell: I like: tacky but classy things - yard sales, sequins, black holes, cafes, and to take pictures as if they were my only source of memory. I am: the total female version of William Miller (minus the Rolling Stone and touring part, one can wish), an urban explorer, a sweater enthusiast, a geek, a person lacking athletic ability, and a future NPR correspondent, and a cat lover.
I listen to: indie hipster trash, beats brought in by the tidal waves, avant-garde indie rock, Ivy League yacht music, neo psychedelic, and pop punk holds a sacred spot in my heart.
I started doing this when: I realized that I had no rhythm and would never be able to be in a band. My musical passion could not be tamed, and I needed an outlet before it blew me up. Music journalism suddenly seemed right up my alley. I naïvely asked for a Paramore interview for my school paper (and expected to get one), but got a photo pass instead. The unfortunate event twisted into a fortunate situation. I didn’t know what I was doing, but it just felt like the answer for my musical desires. It became an addiction after that.

I didn't go to my first concert until 2001, when I was 19, but it was love from "first note." Soon after that, I started photographing concerts and have been going strong ever since. My first love is the Chicago local scene, and that is also where you can find me most weekends (and sometimes during the week, too!). My favorite local band is Last Fast Action, with whom I work with so much that I am "officially in the band," according to them. In addition to harassing as many local musicians as I can for photopasses, I also have a camera addiction (18 cameras and counting, oy), and read several books a week. As for my day jobs: I was a middle school English teacher in my previous life, and am now a full-time photographer for a small university, but I am currently getting my Master's in education to someday go back to teaching. I have a wonderful husband, Aaron, who doubles as a photographer's assistant, and a cat, Zoe, who takes up way too much room on the bed.

What is this site all about?

TheyWillRockYou was started a few years ago with the help of some good friends. We were all big music fans looking for an outlet to share what we were most passionate about. A few years later, the song remains the same and we are at it again.

The great part about it is, that as much as we all love music, our backgrounds and musical tastes are as diverse as they come. The staff spans from California to Boston in the US and as far away as Australia. The one tie that binds? You guessed it - music.

On a personal note, I've been obsessed with music since I was very young. I remember stealing my mom's Simon & Garfunkel records and listening to The Boxer over and over for hours. That was just the beginning. Music was my salvation in a world that was not always kind. When people let me down, music never did. It provided an unconditional solace and a place to escape to that was always open-24 hours a day.

As I grew older, my love for music overwhelmed me and I started looking for any way possible to be involved. I didn't really fancy myself as much of a musician, (my brief relationship with the clarinet ended in what could only be described as a third-grade disaster), so I sought out other outlets.

After befriending every rock n roll pen-pal within a 3000 mile radius and 7 continents (thank you Metal Edge) I started realizing the magic of networking and the power that it had. I started a few grassroots campaigns for bands I followed religiously, promoting their music in any way possible with many of my friends. (Flyers, newsletters, cassette singles). This led to a small promotion company for local bands, the publication of my first fanzine (Fantasia), followed by my second fanzine (Face The Music) and my love for concerts and road trips. I learned the hard way to love the music and not the musician. (Okay fine, maybe that's one lesson I still haven't learned.)

Print Fanzines come at a price (literally!!) and as I grew older, I had to weigh the odds. We decided to retire our fanzine and work on loftier goals in life. Soon after, the internet revolution was underway, I realized what a powerful tool it could be for new bands, unsigned bands, or bands that were making a second go at it.

So, in summary, that was really my goal for the site. That's what we are about. Promoting music. Helping great bands be heard and seen by people that may not ever hear or see them without our help. This is not our day job for any of us. This is our hobby. We do this because we want to, not because we have to. Sound like something you might be interested in?
