TWRY Band of the Week: The Architects

The Architects

Many music fans may have got their first taste of The Architects on Warped Tour this summer but the band is coming back around for seconds so get ready.  The brothers Phillips (Brandon, Zach and Adam) along with their best friend Keenan are currently on tour with Flogging Molly and Frank Turner in support of their latest album “The Hard Way”.

With their no bs, no gimmick approach to music their sound has been described as combining the lyrical stylings of Johnny Cash and Tom Petty with the sonic boom of The Clash and AC/DC and authentic to the core.

You don’t have to take our word for it though.  We have two songs for your downloading pleasure:

TWRY Band of the Week – The Coming Weak

tcwmainThe Coming Weak is:

Tim White on vocals
Nick Benziger on drums
Jamie Thomas on guitar
Matt Tremblay on guitar
Jeff Langmaid on bass

One of the the most rewarding things about living in New England is that so many great bands get their start here.  One of our favorite bands and one we’ve been a fan of since their very beginning is The Coming WeakOver the past few years we’ve watched them grow and evolve into the band that they are today and we couldn’t be more excited for them about their new EP “Are We All Letting Gothat drops on July 25th.  (For a trip in the “way-back” machine check out the spotlight we did with The Coming Weak back in 2007.  We will be conducting a new spotlight feature with them soon!)

Although we’d like to think that we’ve got our finger on the pulse of upcoming superstars in music, we aren’t the only one’s with eyes and ears on The Coming Weak, they’ve been  named as one of the top 10 unsigned bands in DJ Rossstar’s “Unsigned Band Contest II” as well as named to’s “Absolute 100” list of bands to watch out for in 2009.  Most recently the band was nominated in The Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll for best local act.

Back to their upcoming EP, If you are a fan of Anberlin meets Taking Back Sunday, The Coming Weak might just be your new favorite band.  The lead single for “Are We All Letting Go“, titled Vacant, will be debuted during the WBRU 9 o’clock news on July 22, 2009.   If you can’t tune in then make sure you pre-order or pick up your copy of the EP on July 25th.

The band will be having their CD release party at Club Hell in Providence, RI on July 25th, 2009.  You can also hear the song “Every Waking Moment” on the band’s MySpace page RIGHT NOW! Check out the video below for more info on the show from Tim:

If you can’t make the release party, the band will be performing acoustic sets at select Hot Topic locations in New England the last week of July.  Check their MySpace page for details.

TWRY Band of the Week – Billy Boy On Poison

bbopBilly Boy On Poison is:

Davis Leduke– lead singer
Ryan Wallengren – guitar
Jessi Calcaterra – drummer
Greg West – guitar

When producer Jude Cole saw Billy Boy on Poison perform live he knew immediately that he wanted to sign them to Ironworks Music; the music label he had started with Kiefer Sutherland.

At the time the band were playing local gigs and backyard bashes around town and were as raw as could be, but that was part of the allure.  It wasn’t bells and whistles that made this band stand out, it was their organic ability to channel rock influences of old with a fresh new approach.  One listen to Billy Boy On Poison will conjure up comparisons of old school rock and glam being delivered through a new youthful perspective.

Even their name, taken from the novel “A Clockwork Orange” by Anthony Burgess (later made into the film by Stanley Kubrick), beckons back to a time before the members of the band were even born.  Leading the group of old souls, frontman Davis admits to loving the works of Burgess, Ginsberg, and even Robert Frost.

Noting the frustration of being young and not always being heard Davis expresses his desire to get out on the road and to play to audiences who can relate to them. “I can’t wait to get in a shitty van and travel the country!” exudes Davis. “Play our songs, speak our truth to audiences who can relate to our sense of frustration with this troubled world. Yeah we’ve got songs about getting laid and blowing shit up but it’s more than that. It’s teenage rebellion, trying-to-be-heard stuff.  Nobody listens to teenagers or gives a shit about what’s on our minds. People say we’re the future. We have to save the planet. If that’s true, doesn’t it make sense to listen to us while we’re young, while we’re learning, instead of when its too late and we’ve gotten all cynical and lost our youthful perspective, not to mention our faith?”

(Note:  Please check TWRY later this week for an interview we did with Lzzy, Joe and Arejay before a recent show in MA as well as live photos from their performance!)

Formed in 1998 by Lzzy and her brother, drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm has made its bones as a major league hard rock outfit via countless North American gigs alongside such like-minded artists as Shinedown, Seether, Flyleaf, and Trapt.  2006 saw the release of Halestorm’s debut Atlantic EP, “One and Done,” which expertly captured the intensity and energy of the band’s live show. Now in 2009 we see the release of the band’s first studio self-titled album on Atlantic records.

Produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf), “Halestorm” is an explosive collection of infectious hard rock anthems, a fiery flurry of sexy hooks and rough and tumble grooves.  Steering this runaway train is dynamic singer/guitarist Lzzy Hale, who brings a hypnotic intensity to such tracks as the sensual “I Get Off” and “Bet U Wish U Had Me Back.”  The rest of the band is just as explosive and to get the full benefit of what they have to offer you should check them out live!

The band is currently out on a co-headlining tour with The Veer  Union and Burn Halo which will be followed up with Halestorm joining Staind and Shinedown on the “Stimulate This” tour.  (Tour dates can be found below)
