Ben Folds, Damian Kulash, Amanda Palmer & Neil Gaiman Team Up To Write & Record 8 Songs In 8 Hours For Rethink Music Conference

Talk about being put on the spot! Ben Folds, Damian Kulash (OK Go), Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), and author Neil Gaiman will write and record eight songs in eight hours (4:00 p.m. to midnight) at Berklee College of Music, Monday, April 25, and release them 10 hours later during Rethink Music, in Boston. Like Radiohead did recently, this group will show how record companies are becoming superfluous to building buzz and distributing music.

The historic collaboration will be broadcast live from the recording studio at rethink-music.com. The album will then be released through Bandcamp.com; and proceeds from the first week of downloads will benefit Berklee City Music (providing free music education to underserved teens).

Lonely Avenue, the collaboration between Ben Folds and novelist Nick Hornby is out on September 28th but Folds is allowing fans to preview it before then on his MySpace page

The album idea came from a dinner conversation the two had last year and features music and vocals by Folds and lyrics by Hornby, with string arrangements by Paul Buckmaster. The record, which Folds made specifically to be listened to on vinyl, was recorded on 2-inch tape and will be available on audiophile-grade vinyl, cut with the Direct Metal Master process at Abbey Road Studios and pressed at Pallas Manufacturing in Diepholz, Germany.

Folds will be hitting the road in October and November.  Check out his full list of dates here.
