Live Back To The Roots- Accepted!

When Udo Dirkschneider decided in 2016 that he wanted to perform only Accept songs in his set for an entire tour he was electing to tackle legacy.  At 65 years old he has nothing left to prove.  His resume includes 10 Accept studio albums and 15 U.D.O studio albums spanning a career going back to the late 1970’s. As to not confuse longtime U.D.O fans for this venture, he decided to just go out with this touring band as “Dirkschneider”.  Only performing songs from his Accept albums for one last time.  He claims these songs will be removed from his set forever only choosing to perform U.D.O songs in the future.  One last definitive statement celebrating his Accept years, what they mean to him with a complete concert of these tracks for the fans one last time. The tour has been a huge success all over the world and sparked a Live 2 CD package in late 2016 “Live Back To The Roots” highlighting these great shows.  Demand became great for a visual companion to this Live package so another show was recorded in Dec 2016 via the Czech Republic and now fans have a 2nd Live 2 CD set with a DVD “Live Back To The Roots-Accepted!”. Italian death metal stalwarts Hour of Penance have spent their career taking no prisoners, and extremity is assured on their sixth album Regicide. Kicking things off with an intro reminiscent of a dark fantasy film, the band immediately shifts into high gear with “Reforging the Crowns.” From there to album finisher “Theogony,” Hour of Penance have created a solid slab of high-octane death metal that runs at full speed. Russell Allen may well be the greatest singer on the planet at this time and I was really looking forward to the Mob’s second album Men of Honor.  What really was going to be the wild card with this release was new drummer A.J. Pero of Twisted Sister fame. With the success of The Winery Dogs, Mike Portnoy had to leave yet another band he created.

Let’s face it A.J. has nothing to prove in terms of his chops to Mob fans and the metal community at large but it has to do more with his style and it fitting into the rest of the band while making sure there is no drop off with the departure of Portnoy.  Well I’m happy to report that not only is Pero a welcome addition to the Mob family but this record truly represents a milestone in the Allen legacy as this album is better than the first record Omerta (2012) and quite possibly my favorite Allen album ever.  Full of vigor, melodic charm and beastly range Allen carries Men of Honor which is now my favorite album so far in 2014 and will be tough to top moving forward. Wow, can you imagine that 1994 was the last time we heard any new original material from Cinderella with Still Climbing?  Well Mr. Keifer, the 19 year break was well worth the wait with The Way Life Goes.  On his new solo release, Tom takes the listener on a journey through all of what made Cinderella great – whisky soaked vocals, crunching guitars, bluesy hard rock, and  kick-ass menacing anthems aimed to please.  Tom took his best shot and hit the target with a resounding BULLYSEYE.  The songs are so strong it truly rivals anything on Night Songs or Long Cold Winter – two classics in my collection.  Keifer has come up with some his most memorable lyrics, really painting a picture with each track while keeping me tapping my best air drums at the same time with a solid backing band.
