Mitch James of Crossfade

The past few years haven’t been an easy ride for Crossfade. After releasing two albums on Columbia Records – their hugely successful debut self-titled release in 2006 and the follow up titled Falling Away – the band was unceremoniously dropped in 2008. It sent them into a downward spiral for awhile but their saving grace turned out to be their music. Left a little bitter by the experience the band didn’t really know what the future held for them but their love for music and their friendship brought them together to start writing new music together once again.
Eleven Seven Music soon showed interest in the band and signed them. The writing process for their debut release on Eleven Seven Music would take the band down exciting new paths resulting in their latest album We All Bleed, released on June 21, 2011. With the first single “Killing Me Inside” rocking the way for the rest of the new songs, the band wrote a much darker and heavier album than we’ve heard from them in the past, much due to their experiences over the last few years. The songs are rich in layers and textures and the lyrics are honest and in your face. Crossfade has a message and We All Bleed delivers it loud and clear.
TWRY recently caught up with bassist Mitch James to catch up on everything the bands been up to, the writing process, and their new album.

For one week only, Crossfade is offering a FREE MP3 download of “Killing Me Inside,” the first single off of their new album We All Bleed. Download the track by going to the band’s Facebook page and “Liking” them.
We All Bleed, the band’s third album, delves into familiar lyrical themes of betrayal and isolation, but there’s also more than a hint of renewal and resolution. “A lot has changed over the past three years,” says lead vocalist and co-songwriter Ed Sloan. “Being down and out is something I’ve had to confront like never before. There’s been pain, but I’ve also learned to dwell less on the negative, so there’s a feeling of rebirth, too.”
Crossfade will be playing Rock On The Range this Saturday, May 21st. Scheduled to play at 2:30 p.m. on the f.y.e Stage (subject to change). If you’re not going to be at ROTR, Crossfade have added a batch of June tour dates to their touring plans. See below if they will be playing a city near you.

Free Download: Dengue Fever / Cement Slippers

Unless you’re already “in the know,” the phrase Dengue Fever will probably conjure up thoughts of a mysterious tropical illness, not necessarily the enigmatic band who serves up an exotic blend of Cambodian melodies, Afro grooves, surf, and psychedelic rock. But that will change on April 19th, when Dengue Fever, the six-piece group from Southern California, releases Cannibal Courtship. The band’s first studio album in three years features 11 new tracks with songs sung in English and Khmer, Cambodian singer Chhom Nimol’s native language. First single “Cement Slippers” is a slinky, spiky rock track, reminiscent of what would happen if the B-52s met the Pixies in 2011, you can download it below for free.
Dengue Fever formed ten years ago after keyboardist Ethan Holtzman traveled to Cambodia and fell in love with the country’s unique take on rock music, heavily influenced by the surf sounds of the 1960s. His brother, guitarist and singer Zac Holtzman, had separately discovered the subgenre and, upon Ethan’s return to the States, assembled the other musicians: bassist Senon Gaius Williams, drummer Paul Dreux Smith, and brass/woodwinds player David Ralicke. But their sound wasn’t complete until they heard Nimol – a star in her home country who had performed for the King and Queen of Cambodia – sing at Southern California venue the Dragon House.
