If your music collection spans several decades, as mine does, go flip through it, and you may find at least one album that Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin has played on with his previous bands – Candlebox, Wrathchild America, and Ugly Kid Joe are what I found in my collection…. He has also appeared on a Stone Sour track and played live with Black Sabbath.
Shannon gave me Three Minutes when the Boston-based band Godsmack made a stop to play the Pearl at the Palms hotel here in Vegas recently, and I think he has done the only semi-themed interview. Check it out! Read more
We can only imagine that the Godsmack guys had the July 22nd Mayhem date marked on their calendar from day one, nothing beats a hometown crowd! It has been awhile since New England has seen Godsmack on stage since Sully has been busy with his solo tour so I think everyone was excited for the show.
They rocked their 11 song set chock full of hits starting straight out of the gates with “Cryin’ Like a Bitch” and wrapping up the night with “I Stand Alone”.
TWRY photographer Jamie Ivins was on hand to capture it all, check out his gallery of Godsmack’s set below! Mayhem Festival continues through mid August. Check out their website for remaining dates and ticket info!

Over the weekend the 2011 installment of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival kicked off in San Bernardino, California at the San Manuel Amphitheater. This year’s line-up boasts an eclectic mix of rock and metal assaulting three different stages. With each day kicking off around 1pm it makes for a full day of music and mayhem.
Headlining the main stage this year are heavyweights Disturbed, Godsmack and Megadeth who also share the stage with Machine Head, In Flames and Trivium. If you’re lucky enough you may also see Testament, Hatebreed or Dethklok – all three are appearing at select shows! (Check out the full list of remaining tour dates & ticketing info here.)
The Revolver Stage is home to Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish and Straight Line Stitch.
The Jagermeister Mobile Stage has Unearth, Kingdom of Sorrow and Red Fang.
The tour will make its way through 26 markets this summer and prides itself on being the only heavy metal and hard rock touring festival that exists in North America today – so get out there and support the cause!!!
One of the highlights of the tour are the Massachusetts natives Godsmack! Frontman Sully Erna hit the stage sporting his Boston Red Sox cap (Hey Sully, we’re one game up at the half!) and continued to tear up the stage setting the tone for the rest of the tour.
Photographer Valerie Nerres was on hand to capture it all! Check out her gallery of Godsmack photos below! More to come soon.

Sully Erna, front man of mega rock band Godsmack, has released his video for the debut single Sinners’s Prayer off his solo album, Avalon. The video which heavily showcases Sully’s evolution in music and firmly defines his unique, new sound, utilizing the hypnotic sounds of tribal rhythms, melodic pianos and cellos, and haunting vocals. Check it out below:
On September 14th Godsmack frontman Sully Erna debuts his new solo album Avalon. The album – years in the making – is Erna’s personal masterpiece. The songs, written throughout the years, were brought to life by Erna’s collaboration with an eclectic vagabond group of exceptional musicians that span from percussionist Niall Gregory (Dead Can Dance) to vocalist Lisa Guyer who fans may remember from her work on past Godsmack albums.
The collection of songs, best described as tribal and hypnotic have several layers and each time you listen to them you hear something new from strings to piano to hand drumming. Not exactly what one would expect from the tattooed frontman but Erna encourages fans to listen to Avalon with an open mind. The album, rich in melodies and composition offers up a diverse range of sounds and evokes an array of emotions but overall it’s a true musical journey for the senses.
We recently had a chance to chat with local boy Sully about the making of the album, how it all came together, and what he hopes fans will take away from it.
