halford Rob Halford

Rob Halford is not a fan of idle hands.  While Judas Priest takes a short hiatus, their leading man is heading out on the 2010 Ozzfest Tour with his band Halford, sharing the stage with Ozzy Osborne and Motley Crue.  Halford will be performing original music along with some songs from Rob’s Fight era and of course some Judas Priest tunes. Confirming that Halford is his priority right now, the band recently offered up their new single “The Mower”.

When he’s not holding court as the reigning Metal God, Rob Halford has his hands full with his own record label, and clothing line.  I guess when you’ve been at it for over forty years, these things just come naturally.  But do these extra-curricular activities point towards Halford hanging up his mic for good any time soon?  Never – according to Halford “Performing is like a drug to me, I just can’t stop doing it.”

TWRY recently talked to Rob about Ozzfest, being on the other side of the record business with his label Metal God Records, and of course the late, great Ronnie James Dio.

ste Spotlight Band: Shredding The EnvelopeShredding The Envelope
Featuring Guitarist Dave Reffett

Guitar virtuoso Dave Reffett and his collaborative partner Nancy Taylor make up the core base of Shredding The Envelope.  On their debut disc “The Call Of The Flames” Reffett combines his unrelenting guitar shredding  with Taylor’s prose resulting in firestorm of thrashing, in your face metal.

Reffett, the son of a coal miner who   grew up in the Appalachian Mountains in Eastern Kentucky started out as a jock, until his older sister turned him on to the power of music.  Joining the school band he played tuba until a chance meeting of his teacher’s Fender Stratocaster in a dusty closet; it was love at first sight.
Shortly thereafter his grandmother bought him his first guitar and the rest, as they say, is history.

His path would lead him to Berklee College of Music in Boston and that’s where he started assembling his who’s who list of guest appearances on “The Call Of The Flames” including Joe Stump, Michal Angelio Batio and George Lynch.

We caught up with Dave to ask him about his latest project and how it all fell into place.

Age Of Evil

aoemain Age Of EvilThe vintage metal sounds of yesteryear are alive and well in the modern metal generation.  Don’t believe it?  All you have to do is check out Age of Evil –  the fast rising quartet out of Scottsdale AZ,  for the supersonic proof.  Keeping it all in the family the band is comprised of two brother tandems-singer/rhythm guitarist Jeremy Goldberg (age 19) and bassist Jacob Goldberg (18),  joined by lead guitarist Jordan Ziff (18) and drummer Garrett Ziff (20).  Friends and blood brothers since childhood the foursome have a natural chemistry that leads to the perfect recipe for metal mayhem.

And look out metal veterans, Age of Evil is rapidly becoming a metal outfit that can do battle.   This is especially evident by their simply ferocious six-track EP, “Get Dead” which will give music fans a one way ticket to the future of metal.  Ready for the ride?

I recently had the pleasure of chatting with the band prior to their recent performance at Showcase Live in Foxboro, MA supporting Hail! On the 2nd night of a brief Northeast run.
