It’s been about three years since Evanescence went on sabbatical after releasing their last album the The Open Door. The band has announced that they’ll be going into the studio on April 11 to begin recording their third studio album with producer Nick Raskulinecz. (Whose recent producing credits include Foo Fighters, RUSH, Stone Sour, Deftones and Alice in Chains, not too shabby!)
Amy Lee on the new album:
“We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on! We’ve written more than an album of songs. We’ve been finding ourselves, reinventing our sound, experimenting with things we’ve never done before and at the same time embracing the things we love most about Evanescence. This journey has made us the strongest we’ve ever been as a band, and I am in love with the music. Nick Rasculinecz is the perfect fit for this record and we are all very excited to get into the studio together.”
Wind-up Records President Edward Vetri comments:
“Amy and the band have been hard at work on the new record. The time off has allowed Amy to expand the creative boundaries of Evanescence. We are very excited to bring this music to the world.”

In 1990 Nelson introduced themselves to the music world via their debut album After The Rain with infectious harmonies, soaring melodies and of course a whole lotta hair. Now, over twenty years later the band returns with their latest album Lightning Strikes Twice which has been heralded as a return to that signature sound that we all fell in love with so long ago.
It’s been a long but fruitful road for Matthew and Gunnar Nelson and they’ve learned many lessons along the way but the one thing that has never wavered is their inherent passion to write and perform music – much like their father – the late, great, Ricky Nelson. Both accomplished songwriters and musicians, Lightning Strikes Twice was written and recorded entirely by Matthew and Gunnar, with a few guest musicians contributing along the way. In what they’ve considered unfinished business in many ways Nelson has channeled their full collective energies to produce some of their most dynamic songs to date.
We recently had a chance to chat with Gunnar Nelson who talked about the new album, the path they’ve traveled, and of course, their beloved family.

Fans have been patiently waiting for Queens of the Stone Age to follow up their 2007 release Era Vulgaris and on the verge of this new year the band has announced that they have a lot of new ideas and are ready to go. Time is of the essence with Josh Homme’s involvement in supergroup Them Crooked Vultures and Dean Fertita’s part in The Dead Weather but hopefully all the stars will allign in 2011!
“Everybody seems excited and ready to go,” keyboard player Dean Fertita told Billboard.com. “We’ve got so many ideas started already; I guess we’ll see what turns out to be everybody’s favorite.”
“It’s very much still [Homme’s] band,” Fertita said. “But I think all of us really feel like we’ve found our space in it and can contribute to it as well.”

If you were even remotely into the SoCal punk-style music of the late 90’s, you’d have to have been living under a rock to NOT have heard of LIT. Everyone at one time or another could totally relate to their number one tune “My Own Worst Enemy” from their platinum disc “A Place in the Sun”. Bassist Kevin Baldes set a new speed record for the world’s shortest interview when LIT recently hit Las Vegas to play at the Crown Theater at the Rio Hotel. Don’t blink when you read the following:
If you became President of the United States, what would your first order of business be?
First order of business would be to legalize marijuana; and I don’t even smoke marijuana. For some reason, you never hear of anyone getting into fights when they’re high, but you hear about people in bars getting into fights because they’re drunk.
True. Very true.
There ya go. Done! Oh, but I didn’t promote anything!
That’s your next question!
I want to promote LIT’s new album. We’re working on it right now, we don’t have a title yet but we do have quite a few songs. It’s awesome! It’s gonna be my favorite album so far! It’ll be our sixth studio effort. Awesome!
When is it due to be finished?
We’re hoping it’s gonna be out probably in March.
Is that on a real calendar or the music business calendar?
Real calendar. We’ve gotta get it out! We’ve gotta get out there, gotta get goin’, man! It’s been too long. We’re excited to get cracking on this.
*Side note: the above conversation took place in one minute, eleven seconds. That beats the previous record held by Gilby Clarke, of one minute, thirty seconds.
Are you or do you know a musician coming through Las Vegas that wants to give the shortest interview ever with probably the shortest interviewer ever? Forward me contact info or put them in touch with me. Do you have a query for the Sack O’ Questions? Email me at ThreeMinWith@yahoo.com. (Sorry, I can not guarantee any question to be asked to anyone specific, because it’s literally the luck of the draw, but if your question gets drawn, you’ll get props – make sure you note how you want to be thanked!)
