Juke Kartel Online Listening Party For “Levolution”

Levolution, the US debut album from melodic rockers Juke Kartel, hits stores today. The album was a true labor of love by the band, who have played together since 2006 and recently made a move from Australia to the States. Lead singer Toby Rand said in a recent interview that Levolution is a story of the journey of the band, whom he describes as “big, powerful, and guitar-driven, with stadium sonic sound.” Single “If Only” proves this point, uniting the band’s gift for melody with heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics. Check out the listening party above to preview the album, which is now available for download on iTunes.

We got our first taste of Juke Kartel when their frontman Toby Rand participated in “Rockstar: Supernova”.  After the show he returned to Australia to reunite with his band Juke Kartel.

Fast forward to the present and the band is about to release their album Levolution on Carved Records on September 28th.  Levolution finds musical symmetry in its strong hooks, multi-textured instrumentals and passionate vocals. And as the album is more than just your typical rock record, Juke Kartel is not just a rock band: “We’re more than just band-mates; we’re a family that chose each other.”

So we know that Ryan and Jon have carried on with The Young Veins but it’s been a little while since we’ve heard from the remaining members from the Panic at the Disco! camp, never fear, brought us this update from Brendon Urie:

“We’ve had a collection of many songs for about a year and a half, but have actually been recording our third album for only six months. We feel it sounds much different than both our previous records. I think that’s always been a goal of our band; challenging ourselves to do something we haven’t before. We’ve recorded all the music and are preparing for mixing. We hope to see it released early next year”

Opening with a throbbing rendition of Los Lobos’s ‘Angel Dance’, the album encompasses the glittering drone-rock of Low’s ‘Silver Rider’ and ‘Monkey’, the Fifties-style country-gospel harmonies which transform The Kelly Brothers’ Sixties soul classic ‘Falling In Love Again’, the desolate banjo-driven interpretation of ‘Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down’, the transplanted English/Appalachian folk ballad ‘Cindy I’ll Marry You Some Day’, and jangling blues imagery of ‘Central Two-O-Nine’.

Robert Plant and the Band of Joy will be touring the U.S. in July in support of Band of Joy, with more dates to be announced.  For a complete list of dates go to

Robert Schwartzman of Rooney

June 8, 2010 by

How do you measure the true character of a band?  Is it the success they have with the backing of a major label or their ability to bounce back once they’ve taken full creative control back into their own hands?  Either way, Rooney (Robert Schwartzman on vocals and guitar, Louie Stephens on keys, Taylor Locke on guitar and Ned Brower on drums), know that staying true to their music and their core fanbase is their highest priority.

On June 8th the band returns with their third full length album “Eureka”.  After their up and down experiences with previous major label releases the band decided to go the indie route with this one and shoulder the full responsibility.  The album is 100 percent Rooney from start to finish – written, produced and released on their own label California Dreamin’ Records (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).

Since their major label debut in 2003 the band has felt a bit stifled by the suits and this album gave them the opportunity to do things their own way.  Mixing their old soul with new tricks the result is an album that has all of the Rooney charm that we’ve come to expect.  Sharing the writing duties this time allowed for the songs to cover a broader range of sounds and styles.   Their influences are widespread but they’ve pulled together a cohesive collection of songs that deliver on all marks –  clever wordplay through honest storytelling, well-crafted catchy choruses, and the throwback addictive beats.

We recently caught up with Robert Schwartzman to talk about the new album, the long road getting here, the departure of bassist Matt  Winter and of course we had to throw in a little West Coast/East Coast sports rivalry courtesy of the NBA Finals.
