Spotlight Band: Dead Sara

June 14, 2011 by

Singer Emily Armstrong and guitarist Siouxsie Medley, the anchors of the band Dead Sara, have been making music together since they were teenagers.  When they decided to branch out a little more they solidified their band line up with Chris Null on bass and Sean Friday on drums.

With their debut album due out this summer the band traverses with ease from genre to genre producing melodic gems that flow right into in fierce, tear your head off, metal induced rockers all with a gritty, primal edge that leaves your ears wondering what could possibly come next.

We recently caught up with Armstrong and Medley to talk about the band, their upcoming album and the magical chemistry they’ve seemed to harness.

Sixx:AM (Nikki Sixx, James Michael and Dj Ashba)  are back with their new album This Is Gonna Hurt, the follow up to their 2007 debut Life Is Beautiful.  The new album, like the first, coincides with the release of the new book written by Nikki Sixx of the same name.

We’ve got an autographed copy of This Is Gonna Hurt to give away to one lucky winner.  To enter:  send an email to with the subject “Sixx:AM”.  Include your name, number, email address and mailing address.  One winner will be selected at random on May 15, 2011.

About the album:
The idea for the album came one day when Michael stopped by Sixx’s Funny Farm photo studio. The pair were looking through some of the bassist’s recent pictures, which depicted people missing limbs, some who were incredibly overweight and prostitutes who all engage with Nikki for photographs included in the book THIS IS GONNA HURT. Michael and Ashba were struck by Sixx’s ability to capture beauty in situations where society judges it as other than. It made them think about their own assumptions and feelings and as they do, the group got together and wrote and recorded songs about the experience.

Michael says, “The way Nikki had set the surroundings, you realize the photo subject has such an incredible story to tell. It was very thoughtful and very beautiful and I believe he was taking a picture of the person inside, even though the outside was not what we’re used to seeing and certainly didn’t fit the average person’s concept of what beautiful is. When I listen to the finished record, it’s these images I see.”

“The idea is to show the truth about how people do judge others and how they turn a blind eye to people that are different,” explains Ashba. “It’s basically a wakeup call. Hopefully people get it and it will sink in.”

Queensryche Check In From The Studio

February 24, 2011 by
Filed under 80s Guy For The Modern Eye, Daily Music News

Queensryche recently entered the studio to lay down what will be the band’s first studio recording since their American Soldier project in March of 2009. Due out on Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records later this spring, the working title of the forthcoming effort is once again “Bob.”

“Our very first demo was recorded on a cassette tape by a guy named Bob,” explains front man Geoff Tate. “We’ve kept that tradition ever since and, to this day, put all of our demos in the original case labeled ‘Bob’ until we actually have an album title.”
Very superstitious, indeed. The project has been a true meeting of the creative minds since it began earlier this year. And if you think you know “Bob,” think again…
The tentative moniker certainly wasn’t meant to be a palindrome like Black Sabbath’s Live Evil… that’s just they way it turned out.
“We’ll certainly have the name of the album soon,” states Tate. “In the mean time, we hope you’re getting ready to welcome ‘Bob’ into your own, individual rock universe.”

SKOLD To Release “Anomie” On May 10th; Tim Skold’s First Album In 15 Years

February 23, 2011 by

Whether you remember him from Marilyn Manson, Shotgun Messiah, KMFDM, or OhGr, Tim Skold is back!  Ready to realese his first album in 15 years SKOLD will release Anomie on May 10th.

SKOLD on Anomie:
“It really is completely self indulgent wankery, but that goes for just about every record I’ve ever liked. I don’t want people to expect anything from me, I promise only to remain defiantly and completely untrustworthy.”

“To me, Anomie definitely feels like a continuation (of his 1996 self-titled solo album), but since I spent a lot of time doing other things, it is, for all intents and purposes, a new beginning,” Tim continues. A fully self-sufficient recording entity, SKOLD is a very personal project and Anomie was something that fulfills his own personal desires. “I really like the word ‘anomie’ and think it applies to me both on a personal and creative level but most of all I think it describes my music and how I make my music. There is absolutely no collaboration on this album whatsoever. The ‘drummer’ (me) hates the ‘guitar player’ (me). The ‘singer’ (me) refuses to do more than one take and the ‘bass player’ (me) is out doing other shit while the ‘Producer’ (me) really just wants to kill them all. It’s a very sick affair.”

How to get yours?
The album is set for release either as a 12-track CD or digital download (that you can pre-order here) or as a digital deluxe version with two bonus tracks (that you can pre-order here). As an extra special bonus to the Metropolis mail order, the first 1,111 pre-orders will receive a super exclusive hand-numbered and autographed Anomie postcard.

Anomie Tracklisting:
01 (This is my) Elephant
02 Suck
03 Black Out
04 Angel of Noise
05 Satellite
06 Becoming
07 The Hunger
08 Here Comes the Thunder
09 And Then We Die
10 Miserably Never Ever
11 Tonight
12 What You See Is What You Get
