Concert Gallery: Sarah Lee and Johnny at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA

The husband-and-wife duo Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion opened the show for Martin Sexton at the Calvin Theater on April 2nd.  And yes, if the name sounds familiar, she is the daughter of legendary Arlo Guthrie proving indeed that somtimes the power and passion of music can be passed down through the generations.  Sarah and Johnny’s latest release is titled Bright Examples and offers up a self-described “more atmospheric or psychedelic” take on country rock. The album features a dozen original compositions, chosen from more than 50 they’d accumulated over the past five years. “It was really great to have that many songs,” says Guthrie, “but at the same time, what do you do with the rest? They weren’t any less good. We just picked the songs that we thought went together well.”  To find out more visit their website, and check out our gallery from their set below.

Martin Sexton kicked off his Spring Tour recently at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA.  A humble return to the state where the singer/songwriter  got his start performing in Harvard Square in Boston. The bluesy, soulful, folk-infused singer/songwriter continues his tour throughout the country, and take it from us, this is one you shouldn’t miss.
